Bradford One past the first hurdle

Bradford One are pleased to announce that our proposal to transform the former Odeon building has reached the next stage of the Council’s Expression of Interest process.

Bradford One’s plans for the former Odeon centre around a modern, state-of-the-art live music venue which is capable of being used flexibly for other entertainment, corporate and community functions.

Alongside this our plans include a number of other income streams e.g. cafe bars, restaurants, shops and a small venue that will both contribute to the project’s viability and help to boost Bradford’s visitor and night time economy.

Bradford One is a community benefit society which was set up by a group of ordinary Bradfordians – with the help of architects, consultants and community ownership experts – to save and regenerate the building for the benefit of Bradford.

We propose that whilst the building and its various aspect will be run professionally and commercially, ownership will rest with Bradford One on behalf of its members and the people of Bradford, securing the building’s future once and for all.

Bradford One is one of two bids to make it to the next stage of the process to regenerate the building, along with fellow music venue bid Bradford Live. We share many aspirations and values with the Bradford Live bid, and will be exploring opportunities to work together to secure a sustainable future for the building.

Anyone wishing to show active support for our plans can join us as a member.

To date we have over 400 members, many of whom have pledged their time to support the project, and between them have indicated a willingness to invest over £32,000 through a future community share issue.

Bradford One chairman Gideon Seymour said:

“We are delighted to have met the Council’s threshold for progressing to the next stage and look forward to working with them as we endeavour to turn our plans into a sustainable future for this much loved building. We would urge anyone who wants the former Odeon building to have a sustainable future to join Bradford One and help us make our plans a reality.”
